“The Butcher” headlines Rise of the Fallen

Whanganui born, NZ light heavyweight Rob “The Butcher” Berridge will defend his NZPBA belt against Waikato’s Andrew Robinson tomorrow night in the Rise of the Fallen fight night at Whanganui’s Springvale Stadium.

Also up for grabs is the vacant IBO Oceania light heavyweight title.

Berridge has been training in his hometown for the last 2 weeks with trainer and relative Paul Berridge, who is also organising the event.

The 30-year-old boxer will fight in remembrance of his great grandfather, William Berridge who served in Egypt with the 6th Hauraki Regimental Company of the Auckland Battalion in WWI. He also fought in Gallipoli at Anzac Cove, where he was shot in the neck by a Turkish sniper and only rescued after three days of crawling through a trench while avoiding sniper fire.

He talks to our reporter Tamati Tiananga, Te Kāea at 5.30pm.
