19-year-old man arrested over death of Te Atatu woman

Waitakere Police have arrested and charged a 19-year-old man with the murder of Te Atatu woman Cun Xiu Tian.

The teenager is in custody and will appear in the Waitakere District Court this morning charged with murder and two counts of sexual violation.

Detective Senior Sergeant Roger Small, Waitemata Police says, “I know that the arrest will bring some relief to the Te Atatu and wider community and we’d like to thank the public for their support and assistance over the past six days.”

Tian's family has been advised of the arrest and are being supported by Police and Victim Support.

Last Friday morning, Cun Xiu Tian was brutally murdered in a vicious and prolonged attacked in her own home in the West Auckland suburb.

The investigation, dubbed Operation Nepal, was made up of 25 investigators and other staff.

Earlier this week, a vigil was held for 69-year-old Cun Xiu Tian as residents in Te Atatu continue to come to terms with this tragic event.
