1975 Māori Land March a special moment in NZ history

The photographer who documented the famous Land March of 1975 says it was a "special" moment in the history of this country.

Christian Heinegg has returned from America with his wife Marcia to see his photographs which feature in the exhibition, Not One More Acre, at the Alexander Turnbull Library.

The 1975 Māori Land March which travelled the length of the North Island saw a shift in political consciousness about the land, culture and identity.

"It brings back memories of a special time I was just watching the slide show and the amazing restoration of the pictures there, and you know the people that have passed on, were friends of ours and it was an honour to be part of that," said Heinegg.

Spokesperson for the Alexander Turnbull library, Paul Diamond says they hope these treasures can be seen in other areas.

Heinegg hopes future generations can see these pictures and gain a small insight into the significance of that time.
