A new law on children and seat belts comes into effect on November 1, raising the age a child must be restrained on a booster seat from 5 years old to 7 years old.
Safekids Aotearoa fought hard for the age limit to be increased, but say we are still way behind other countries in which children up to 10 years of age must use a booster seat and wear a seat belt.
A spokesperson from Safekids Aotearoa says our children are treasures and it's only right that the age be increased to protect and keep them safe in cars.
A widespread ad campaign has begun, and information packs have been sent to schools throughout the country.
Although NZ is progressing on the right track, we are still way behind the rest of the world.
Ultimately, Safekids Aotearoa wants everyone to be clear on the new law so that our children don't fall victim due to ignorance.
