Accommodation woe leading up to Te Matatini 2015

A leader from the kapa haka group Hātea has taken to Facebook after the Redwood Hotel in Christchurch declined their group's booking, even though their post states that it took Redwood Hotel nearly two months to make that decision.

The Hātea group from Northland didn't want to comment on camera.

Owners of Redwood Hotel responded by saying they don't make bookings well in advance.

The head of Large Groups (Accom), Gordon Freeman, explains, "We don't know where we are half the time, we've just been through 11,000 earth quakes we certainly do not take bookings 9 months in advance."

Te Matatini Festival is set to take place at Hagley Park between March 4 - 8, 2015.

Rānui Ngarimu of the Waitaha Cultural Council Trust, one of the organisers of the event, says they are there to assist groups having difficulties finding accommodation.

It's estimated that 30,000 spectators and participants will descend on Christchurch for Te Matatini.

Only time will tell whether or not the 'Quake City' will be ready to host them for the world's biggest kapa haka event.
