Roberta Ratu of Te Puke hopes to return to her position at AFFCO Rangiuru but fears a Facebook post to her local MP Te Ururoa Flavell seeking support with union negotiations may cost her a job.
AFFCO has come under fire for telling union member and meat worker, Roberta Ratu, to take down a Facebook post.
Ms Ratu (Te Aupouri, Ngāti Maniapoto) says, "It was just a simple post to my local MP, Te Ururoa Flavell, and for a big corporation big company to tell me to take it down I just thought that was just bullying and intimidation."
Since her post on Facebook in April, Ratu has received a letter from AFFCO asking her to take it down.
Ratu explains, "In my post I didn't put the company down at all and it was me talking to my local MP."
Te Waiariki MP Te Ururoa Flavell says, "I don't agree with the way the company has treated one of its workers. To me, that's not right."
The Labour Party however is calling for the Iwi Leaders Forum to help with negotiations between AFFCO and the Union.
Tāmaki Makaurau MP Peeni Henare explains, "That's what we from Labour are saying, where are the rights for workers regardless of them being Māori or Pākehā?"
For now, Ratu's post remains on Facebook. However, she has been advised by lawyers of the Meat Workers Union that she has legally done nothing wrong.
