Another successful year for Te Arawa Games

A call to the descendants of Te Arawa canoe was answered this weekend with the Te Arawa Games kicking off in Rotorua. The event is in its 4th year running and continues to grow stronger and stronger.

According to Dean James, “It's good to see families from Maketu to Tongariro coming here to support this event.”

12 teams registered for the event with the kī-o-rahi and waka ama titles being contested today.

Cathy Dewes says, “The main objective is to come together.  It's a call to all the tribes of Te Arawa to come together and play the games of this generation and those from the past like kī-ō-rahi.”

The objective is to bring those who have links with Tamatekapua together under the banner of sports.

Over 1000 people attended the event and the hope is that next year will be bigger and brighter.
