Aotea Senior Kapa Haka Regionals - Te Rōpū Taikura o Te Kāhui Herekawe

Te Rōpū Taikura o Te Kāhui Herekawe came into fruition this year, in the hands of kaumātua from Waitara, Ngāmotu, and Parihaka, with the aim to boost the numbers of teams to qualify for the national Te Matatini Festival, to represent the three waka of the Aotea region, Tokomaru o Whata, Kurahaupo Taraepo and Aotea Ūtanganui.

With only eight weeks of preparation, they stand to support their many mokopuna who are in all teams around their ancestral mountain, Taranaki, and to also let their mokopuna know that they are 'here for them' whenever they need a nanny and koro beside them, to cheer for them from the sideline.

Te Kāhui Herekawe also wants to acknowledge the dearly-departed, especially those they've lost in the last year; Kui Taina Tioko, Juanita Bishop, Te Rangitaake Ngaia.

Their tutors and leaders today are Kurt Komene and Moana Williams.

Their performance today was all based on Taranaki waiata, and here is their 'animated' version of an iwi classic, 'Putiputi Kanehana'.
