Arapata Hakiwai appointed Kaihautū of Te Papa Tongarewa

It's been a long journey for Arapata Hakiwai, but perhaps he has finally arrived home.  He has been newly appointed to the position of Kaihautu Māori of Te Papa.

During his schooling at Te Aute college, the seed of education was planted within him, and he took with him the motto of the school, "Whakatangata Kia Kaha".

More recently, he's worked within the Māori department of Te Papa, but the first challenge he faces is securing the same powers as the CEO for his own position.

But most of all, he wants to help iwi Māori in becoming more familiar with the knowledge in this house.
