Armoured vehicles dispatched to Onepū stand-off

Armoured vehicles have been sent in to the area where police are currently in a stand-off with an armed man who allegedly shot and injured four officers in Onepū.

Four officers were shot yesterday, one was transferred to Waikato Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Another officer who was shot in the hand will also undergo further treatment at Waikato. The other two officers have been discharged.

Police say no further shots have been fired since the officers were injured and the operation continued throughout the night.

Cordons are still in place and a large number of police staff, including specialist units, have worked throughout the night.

According to reports, family and friends of the man at the centre of the situation have been attempting to gain access and speak with him directly with the hope no one else is harmed.

However police have told media they will not allow anyone access to the area to prevent any further injury.
