Auckland welcomes Commonwealth-Oceania Powerlifting

If you're going to compete against the world's best, "getting them gains" is the name of the game.

Hundreds of world class power lifters will descend on Auckland next month to compete in the Commonwealth-Oceania Powerlifting and Bench-press Championships.

Amongst the NZ team is a Hawke's Bay trio who are looking forward to the challenge.

Three-time Strongman champ, Nick Hansen, is the most experienced on the team.

Hansen believes there's going to 'big lifts' and 'big records' sets with 500 lifters attending the event over four days.

Newcomer to the game, Dimi Hanara, specialises in the bench, with a personal best of 250kg.

Dimi Hanara (Kahungunu) says, “It’s pretty scary being under that weight, so you need to have your wit about you, be pretty confident and believe in yourself.”

At 21, Ethan Foote is the youngest on the team, and wants to have an opening lift of 300kg at the championships.

He'd like to win his class, 120kg+ juniors, and also attain the Commonwealth deadlift record which is 280.

This competition is set take place in Auckland from December 4-8.
