Barker steps up to the plate

The new chairman of the Port Nicholson Block Settlement Trust has made his intentions clear to lodge a claim with the Waitangi Tribunal over the Govt's social policies.

He's only just landed the chairman's job, but Neville Baker is already knocking on the Govt's door.

Most beneficiaries of Taranaki Whānui live outside the Wellington region, but Neville says only the tribe knows what's affecting the tribe, not the Govt. The hope is that through Māori thinking, good outcomes can be delivered to Māori.

Over the next few weeks, Neville will make a decision whether or not to take his claim all the way to the Waitangi Tribunal.
