Black Caps make history with the Cricket World Cup nearly in their grasp

It was a real nail-biter, a game with highs and lows, rain delays and limited overs and of course the fairytale ending.  The Black Caps' victory over South Africa last night made history and put the Black Caps one step closer to the biggest prize in the world of cricket.

Grant Elliot sealing the win for the Black Caps was the moment that sent Eden Park and the whole country into party mode.

Elliot, originally from South Africa, held his composure the whole innings and turned it up at just the right time, to send the Black Caps to their first ever World Cup final.

Elliot said this morning "I really did feel the pressure, I had two balls, Dan said we weren't going to run to the wickets again so it was up to me, I had two balls to try and take us, I knew 4 runs was enough because a tie was as good as a win, so that was always in the back of my mind, I think the chase we left a little bit too late so it was stressful at the end there."

Today the team was at the airport heading across the ditch to Melbourne, in preparation to the biggest game of their lives.

“Playing in the World Cup final is a dream come true regardless of where you are in your career, and to be able to play so much at home and play a final in Australia I think that's what everyone grows up playing for their country wants to do," says Black Cap Daniel Vettori.

The Black Caps will face either Australia or India who play in the second semi final in Sydney tomorrow.  Regardless of the opposition, the Black Caps are only 100 overs away from making more history.
