Chiefs remain the team to beat

It was a battle of the Bombays last night in the Super Rugby Competition, where the Auckland Blues travelled to Waikato to play the Chiefs. Despite the Chiefs sitting on top of the competition table, and the Blues near the bottom, it was a fight to the end between the two teams.

The Chiefs were first to score in front of their home crowd. The Blues came back with a penalty kick, but the Chiefs went one better and crossed the line to score their second try of the match.

The Blues could not break the Chiefs strong line of defence, with the home side taking a 10-6 the lead into the break.

Auckland came out a different team in the second half, inspired by Melani Nanai’s breakaway try and

Four minutes later Māori boy Rieko Ioane put his team in front.

However that lead was short lived.

The win was anyone’s for the taking right up to the final minutes, but it was the table topping Chiefs that showed just why they're the inform team right now.  Scoring the last try of the match to win 29 – 23.
