For years Liz Kelly has been hitting the streets of Cannons Creek, working with her community.
Today is no different, with a big challenge in front of her as she tries to stop the doors of a bar opening right in the middle of the community.
This year Liz is running for the local Porirua council, and some have accused her of doing this type work to secure votes.
She says local body elections should be compulsory, given the low voter turnout numbers.
The Liquor licensing Agency will release their decision on Monday on whether or not to grant a licence to the tavern in Cannons Creek.
