Crown acknowledges Ngāti Pukenga ki Tauranga

For over 200 years, Ngāti Pukenga ki Tauranga have been fighting the Crown to acknowledge their wrongs, and finally those injustices were put to rest.

Ngāti Pukenga ki Tauranga are nestled beneath the mountain Kopukairoa in Tauranga Moana.

Land was taken and land shall be returned were the words reinforced amongst the speakers.

The tribe will receive $5 million and $500,000 for cultural revitalisation as well as land at Pae ki Hauraki, Te Tihi o Hauturu and Ōtūkōpiri.

Although all lands that were taken have not been returned iwi representatives at the hui believe it's definitely a step in the right direction.
