Day 3 of Easy Rider trial

Eight people lost their lives in the Easy Rider tragedy in 2012, and with just one survivor, it's considered one of NZ's worst maritime tragedies.

Although the trial has only just begun this week, accusations were flying against Gloria Davis, the widow of Rewai Karetai, the late captain of the Easy Rider.

Gloria is representing herself in court, and it was clear that she is out of her depth.

Maritime NZ has laid five charges against Davis and her company AZ1 Enterprises who owned the Eazy Rider, and one witness said it wasn't geared up to carry all of those passengers.

A total of 25 witnesses are scheduled to appear before the court, so it's a long road to the finish line in this case.
