The Dead Lands premiere's fierce pōwhiri from mana whenua

The pōwhiri for The Dead Lands movie premiere held on Wednesday night in Auckland, was just as spine-tingling as the movie itself.

Mana whenua representatives, Te Puru o Tāmaki, welcomed cast and crew to the red carpet event at Manukau's Event Cinemas.

The film is an epic martial arts action film set long before contact with Europeans and colonisation.  It is based of the use of mau rākau, Māori weaponry, and features hard physical hand-to-hand combat showcasing extreme athleticism, lethally precise hand-crafted weapons and choreography of startly beauty and ferocity.
