Earthquake strikes central North Island

Geonet has reported that a 4.7 magnitude quake struck the central and lower North Island.

The quake hit at approximately 6:47am this morning at a depth of 139km.

It was located 25km south east of Tokoroa and was felt far along the east coast, right down to Wellington.

Geonet posted a status to Facebook with details of the quake, and residents from all across the North Island and top of the South were quick to respond where they had felt the rumble.

There are no reports of any damage.
