Police have confirmed that one man has died following an explosion at Salters Cartage in Wiri this afternoon.
At around 1:40pm this afternoon, emergency services were called to the scene on Bolderwood Drive.
Police and the Managing Director of Salters have confirmed that the deceased man was a contractor, killed by a tank explosion.
The cause of the explosion is still unknown. Police and WorkSafe New Zealand are investigating.
A number of workers who were in the area at the time are currently being interviewed by Police.
Locals quickly took to social media straight after the explosion, and reports are that traffic along Roscommon Road will be extra heavy this afternoon.
