Finest Māori musicians celebrate

It was a night that showcased the vast talent of Māori musicians.

International performer Toni Huata won Best Māori Pop Album for the first time with her album, Hopukia.

There were 16 finalists across nine categories, Maisey Rika, taking out five awards; Best Traditional Album, Best Female Solo Artist, Best Māori Song and Best Māori Songwriter.

Tangaroa Whakamautai also won Best Video.

The night also saw the first performance of Golden Harvest in almost 30 years, who were honoured in the movie Mt. Zion.  They also received the prestigious Music Industry Award for their achievements in the 70s.

In the special categories, Ngamoni Huata, received the award for her tireless contribution to the performing arts.

The awards have been going since 2008 and are set to introduce a Māori Hall of Fame for next year's awards.
