Gallery: Five Nations Mounted Games in Kaikohe a huge success

The Five Nations Mounted Games held in Kaikohe have been hailed a huge success for participants and the wider community.

With up to 30 different events in mounted games, competitors need to be fast and accurate as any mistake can cost time and points.

It's been just two years since Danny Kopa took up the sport but he was a strong competitior with his team in this competition and earlier this year he came fifth for his age group at the Australian Individual Championships.

Mounted games originated from a quest by Prince Phillip to create a sport open to people from all walks of life.

Today the sport is played across the globe, and this year, New Zealand hosted teams from England, Canada, South Africa and Australia.

The International event being held in Kaikohe, also known as Te Pū o te Wheke has shone a positive light on the small community and the talent of the Māori participants who gave it their all this year.

Tonight Wikitoria Day will bring you the results of the competition  on Te Kāea at 5:30 and 7:00pm.
