Gates closed for Tachikawa Mill

Workers of the Tachikawa Mill in Rotorua are frustrated with the loss of work as they met for the first time since the news was delivered to them late last week.

More than 130 workers now have no place to go as they try to come to terms with their situation.

The gates are closed at the Tachikawa Mill today as the company goes into receivership, leaving more than 120 workers in limbo.

This is the first meeting workers have had since receiving the news that they've been made redundant.  Some are frustrated about how they received the news, with some finding out on Facebook.

Tachikawa is a Japanese-owned company that had been for some time trying to find ways to keep the company afloat.

However, redundancies are nothing new to the mill, as two years ago saw a mass downgrade.

First Union, represented over 90 workers in the mill, have been meeting with the receivers today.

The Tachikawa Mill will remain closed until further notice.

Tonight the workers of the mill will continue to hold meetings among themselves in order to find avenues for them in the coming weeks.
