'Haka Fit' event reconnects whānau with their marae

The Haka Fit 10s is a marae based kapa haka event being held in Hawke's Bay that will see groups have only 10 members performing three items within ten minutes, but it's not all about the winning, it's all about encouraging whānau to reconnect back with their marae.

No matter what the age, old or young, practise makes perfect and that's what Te Kei o Ngāti Kahungunu is doing.

The rōpū is under the tutelage of Māori weaponry master Steve Rangihuna, affectionately known as Papa T, who has made a full recovery after he was diagnosed with prostate cancer last year.

The Haka Fit 10s will see each rōpū have 10 members that take the stage for 10 minutes performing three items, and the winning rōpū are competing to donate prize money to their chosen marae.

The event will be held at Bay City Outreach Centre in Hastings on August 30.
