Harawira's project helps feed tamariki in need

NRL Wellbeing and Education Manager Joe Harawira has come up with an idea to help children in need. According to statistics, three out of five children in NZ currently live in poverty. Mr Harawira's mission is to drive a life change for these kids through sports so they can flourish in school and in life.

Every child deserves the best in life and for Joe Harawira it’s all about helping those in need.

“I am here to talk about my social enterprise called flo clothing which is helping kids in need.”

Joe says sports can be a vehicle to build a future for tomorrow's leaders.

“Level the playing firmed means that everyone should have access to first and foremost a good education for all our kids.”

In his travels around the world, he's seen first-hand children living in poverty and closer to home in the Bay of Plenty.

“If they go to school and have a negative experience and don't engage and come away with a good education sooner or later they become an issue for all society.”

All the money raised from selling his clothing brand will go back into the business to help fund eat my lunch in schools.

‘”If they are not having a good meal in them and they don't have the right shelter and the right clothing and so forth when they go to school they are not going to become engaged.”

Flo is short for Flourish. He wants all children to have the same opportunities he had for a better future.
