Hauraki-Waikato locals raise concerns around house prices and political involvement

Nanaia Mahuta has long sat comfortably in the Hauraki-Waikato seat and while newbie Susan Cullen has entered the race, the Māori Television Reid Research Poll has put Mahuta well in the lead.

Kōwhiri 14 gave candidates a chance to try and sway those numbers.

One township in the Hauraki-Waikato district and another in Pukekohe raised concerns about being left in the dark and the hike in house prices.

If Labour's Capital Gains policy is introduced, the difference in the purchase price and its selling price will be subject to tax.

However this only applies to investment properties and not the family home.

While the electorate prefer a Māori Party and Labour coalition, Mahuta continued to refute the matter.

On Monday, Kōwhiri 14 will be holding its last election debates, where the leading candidates will be vying for the Tai Tokerau seat.
