Hunt for the Wilderpeople continues to break records

Hunt for the Wilderpeople is the number one New Zealand film of all time at the Australian box office.

The comedy is based on the Barry Crump’s book “Wild Pork and Watercress”.  Filled with witty one-liners, the film follows a young orphan, Ricky Baker and his reluctant caregiver Hec who, after a series of misunderstandings, end up being subject to a nationwide manhunt.

Hunt for the Wilderpeople proved popular in New Zealand and was released in Australia on May 26.

The film knocked “Batman vs Superman” off number one in New Zealand and took out Taika's heart-warming 2010 film “Boy” as the highest grossing New Zealand film.

In its opening week, Hunt for the Wilderpeople took the New Zealand's biggest gross earnings for a local film at $1,745,090.
