Introducing Shania Tatana

Young rising star 15-year-old Shania Tatana (Te Rarawa) is turning to boxing to prepare for her upcoming basketball games, and a Māori boxing champ from Northland is coaching her.

Shania Tatana's friends are on holiday, but she's using her school holiday's to train with successful boxer Daniella Smith to get match fit.

This year in January, Tatana attended the Pacific Coast slam competition in Port Macquarie, Australia with the NZ Pacific U15 team.

Next year, she'll return again to the slam competition to play for the NZ Pacific U17 side.

The former IBF female Welterweight World Champ has specifically designed Tatana's fitness training to better her game on the basketball court at the request of Daniella's father, George.

Tatana, who plays guard, has only been playing basketball for four years and is a current NZ Area Schools player.

She's also been asked by the Muruwhenua senior women's team to join the side and will trial for the Te Tai Tokerau U17 team competing at the North Harbour Easter tournament.
