Iwi plea for respect of land

Where ever you look, there's not a rubbish bin in sight but there are banners with a very clear message.  Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei is working in conjunction with Auckland Council to promote the rubbish-free initiative.

The area is of cultural significance to Ngāti Whātua and they hope people will be encouraged to respect the land, the water, and the environment.

According to of Matt Maihi Ngāti Whātua o Ōrākei, “We invite people to come here, but to take their rubbish home with them.  Keeping our sacred land clean and beautiful has always been our aim.”

People have just been aware of the notices, and they support the idea.

It’s hoped that the new banners will help persuade people in future to leave with a more Tidy Kiwi attitude.
