Iwi radio hosts go head-to-head for charity

Radio Tainui host Patara Berryman accepted the challenge to face Moana FM's Norm Rahiri in a charity boxing event held at G2 Bar and Events Centre, Tauranga, on the weekend.

Rahiri called out Berryman on live radio, and despite the surprise, Berryman didn't back down.

The undercard at the G2 Charity event was led by the opening fight of the night, Berryman and Rahiri going head-to-head in three 2-min rounds.

This was Norm Rahiri's first time in the ring.  Rahiri (Ngāti Kahu) is a local Tauranga Moana pupil and a keen rugby player for Te Puna.

Berryman, a player for Huntly league club, Taniwharau, was looking for a victory in this, his second charity fight.

Despite Rahiri throwing everything at him, Berryman won by unanimous decision.

A DVD of the night including all the fights can be purchased for $15 each, $5 of which will go to the Merivale Community Centre.

The NZ Boxing Association will also be publishing the official results.

G2 Charity Boxing will be holding another event in April 2014, and we could see a rematch between these radio announcers.
