James Cook High promotes Māori Language Week

As part of celebrating Māori Language Week and promoting the Māori language and culture, Te Kapunga students from James Cook High are visiting various mainstream schools in South Auckland.

St Mary’s School in Papakura was one of the many schools fortunate enough to share the cultural experience with James Cook High.

According to Cammy Ball, “It's a pleasure to perform for these young ones and to show them what Māoritanga is about during this special week.”

St Mary’s teacher, Averil Hiddleston says that the level of te reo within the school is at its beginning stages, which is why having James Cook High perform for them is such an amazing experience for their students.

The Te Kapunga students from James Cook High will spend the week travelling to various South Auckland schools to spread the theme of Māori Language Week, "The Word of the Week".
