Junior Māori and English speakers took the Manu Kōrero stage today

It's the second day of the Ngā Manu Kōrero Speech Competition in the Hawke's Bay, and today it was the younger tier competing in the Te Rāwhiti Ihaka and Sir Turi Caroll sections.

Hato Paora's boys took to the national stage today, and while they may look young, their thoughts are somewhat of a senior nature.

Te Wharekura o Ruatoki had two contestants take the stage, with Tomairangi Mariu standing in the English section for the Sir Turi Carroll award, and she's walking in the same footsteps as those of her elders.

Tīmoti Tiakiwai on the other hand stood in the junior Māori section for the Te Rāwhiti Ihaka trophy.  He says his speech aims to share his perspective with youth.

Soon enough we'll find out who the judges have deemed the top national speakers, and like the winners before them, their names will be forever written in the pages of history.
