King Tuheitia has delivered his address at Tūrangawaewae Marae in Ngāruawāhia.
King Tuheitia thanked the masses gathered to celebrate his 9th Coronation today and outlined how happy he was to be able to address the gathering and be among the people this year.
He outlined the struggles he had faced throughout the year including his health and mentioned how important his family and friends were in supporting and keeping him positive.
In addressing matters of the nation, King Tuheitia outlined he was pleased with the progress that has been made with Treaty Settlements and congratulated Ngāti Kahungunu on their achievements, while offering them and other iwi the support of Tainui.
He also outlined his strong support for Māori sovereignty while promising to ensure the relevance of the Kīngitanga is maintained.
While his speech addressed many issues of major importance to Māori he added some humorous points, particularly in regards to the treaty settlement process and the knowledge and experience Tainui has gained from its journey.
