Labour member lodges complaint over party's analysis of Auckland home ownership

Problems are mounting for the Labour Party over its analysis regarding Asian buyers in the Auckland housing market.

One member has already resigned, while another is now set to lodge a complaint with the Privacy Commissioner over the possible use of his family's information in Labour's analysis.

Shane Te Pou has been a Labour Party member for over twenty years.  His wife is Chinese and so he wants an apology from the Party over its analysis regarding the Asian community in the Auckland housing market.

Shane Te Pou and his wife recently bought a house in Auckland. He says they were probably included in Labour's analysis given his wife's Chinese surname.

So if Andrew Little doesn't apologise, Shane Te Pou says he'll lodge a complaint with the Privacy Commissioner.

But Andrew Little isn't apologising and he's not worried about a complaint.

Andrew Little says the information is public and the focus shouldn't be on names, but numbers.

So despite Labour taking aim at the Government, it seems it's shooting itself in the foot as well.

Shane Te Pou is also considering lodging a complaint with the Human Rights Commission.
