Labour Weekend road toll now at four

This year’s Labour Weekend road toll rises to 4 after a woman died this morning when her car crashed into a shop on the corner of Dee and Yarrow Streets in Invercargill at about 7.15am.

Another person died early this morning near the intersection of Bluff Highway and Omaui Road in Southland.

In the North Island, a man died on Sunday after he was hit by two trucks while walking on SH39, near Pirongia in the Waikato. An inquiry is underway to determine the identity of the deceased and the cause of his death.

A 21-year-old motorcyclist also died near Morrinsville on Saturday morning. Police are appealing for anyone who has information on today's crash to contact the Matamata police.

The official holiday road period runs from 4pm on Friday to 6am on Tuesday. Last year three people died during Labour Weekend.
