Lance Hohaia announces retirement

Former Warriors utility Lance Hohaia has retired from rugby league, effective immediately.

Hohaia was playing as half back for The English Super League club St Helens since 2012 and just yesterday the club released a statement with the news that he felt it was time to hang up his boots.

“Lance has been a valued and integral member of the squad for the last three-and-a-half years and we thank him for his service. We wish him and his family well in their life after rugby league with St Helens.”

He made his debut with the New Zealand Warriors in 2002 in a match against the North Queensland Cowboys and also made his international debut for the Kiwis that same year.

In April 2011, it was announced that Hohaia had signed a 4-year contract with St Helens. In the 2014 Super League grand final he was punched unconscious in the first few minutes of the match and had to leave the field for the 14-6 victory over the Wigan Warriors.

Hohaia won 29 caps for the Kiwis and made 185 appearances for the New Zealand Warriors.
