Last troupe returns home from Cassino commemorations

Descendants of soldiers of the 28th Māori Battalion still mourn their loss as they return home from their experience travelling down the footsteps of their forefathers in Italy in the WWII.

The only two 28th Māori Battalion veterans who went on the trip to Cassino returned home earlier this week, but Evered George Otto, a pākehā NZ veteran, remembers the legendary feats of his comrades in the 28th Māori Battalion.

The strong ties between the two cultures was a highlight for these descendants of those who fought for and sacrificed their lives for God, King and Country.
