Magic gear up for Thunderbirds match

Leana de Bruin has been named captain of the Waikato-Bay of Plenty Magic.  The veteran defender takes the on-court reins of the team, as Casey Kopua recovers from her knee injury, but the question is, when will she be back on court?

As an injured Casey Kopua looks on, a new captain has been named for the Magic team.

The 124 international test capped player will take the captain role from her team mate, as Casey recovers from a knee injury.

Casey is not far from running again on court, says Magic coach Julie Fitzgerald.

But at the moment, Julie has a few defence options while Casey is watching from the side.

37-year-old de Bruin is nearing the end of her career, the question is, could this be her last year in the ANZ Championship?

The Magic's first game is against the Thunderbirds tomorrow.
