Mahaki Konia unfazed by new found internet fame

This week we brought you the heart-warming story of a courageous Koro from the East Coast going taking on Rex the Bull in Tikitiki in a video viewed more than 700,000 times. Mahaki Konia says he's not fussed with his new found fame.

It's taken the internet by storm.

But 81-year-old Mahaki Konia doesn't know what all the fuss is about.

Mahaki Konia says, “I didn't know I was that famous.”

Konia says dealing with animals is in his blood.

Mahaki Konia says, “I was a shepherd at Horoera at age 15/16, which is where I began working with the calves.”

Konia's son Whetu is the man behind the camera, he spoke to Te Kāea earlier in the week.

Whetu Konia says, "A little surprised he went out there and didn't know what he was going to do. Then he picked up the water bottle, I didn't know what was going through my mind a little bit of fear, I didn't know what we could do so I thought I'd just keep videoing it."

The bull was lucky enough to get away unscathed, but the same can't be said for the next bull that crosses Koro Mahaki's path.
