Maia Wilson named finalist for Junior Māori Sportswoman award

Following a successful sporting year, secondary school, Maia Wilson has been named as a finalist in the Junior Māori Sportswoman of the Year section at this year’s Māori Sports Awards.

Her hard work has paid off with the 17-year-old representing NZ in both netball and basketball.  Just yesterday, she was named a finalist at this year's Māori Sports Awards.

It's been a busy year for the Mount Albert Grammar school girl, who has put basketball on hold to focus entirely on netball.

The switch has been beneficial.  She's the youngest player to trial for the Silver Ferns side in preparation for the Netball World Cup this year.

She was noticed at an international level and has signed a one-year contract to represent the Pulse in the ANZ Championships.

This will be Maia's second nomination at the awards held later this month.
