After a successful year in two sports, Maia Wilson is wanting to cap off the year with a win at the annual Māori Sports Awards in the Junior Sportswoman category.
This is the 17-year-old's first time nominated at the awards, but is hopeful her accolades in netball and basketball will help her win the title.
It’s the reason she has been named a finalist in the Junior Sportswoman of the year at this year’s Māori Sports Awards.
The past year has been a successful one for Maia, not only did she make the New Zealand Junior Tall Ferns team.
She also excelled in netball, claiming a spot in the New Zealand Secondary Schools team, New Zealand A team and was also chosen as a Silver Ferns training partner.
Despite all this success, there are still many more goals the Year 12 student has set out for herself for the future.
