Man dies after jumping from Wellington floating crane

A man died this morning after he jumped off a floating crane on Wellington's waterfront.

A friend of the man quickly notified the Emergency services moments after the man failed to resurface. Only last week police were warned of the dangers of jumping from the crane.

Emergency services searched the area and found the man's body on the sea floor not far from where he hit the water.

According to Sargent Brett Cousins of Wellington Police, “When you're jumping from a height like that it's like hitting concrete.”

Police issued a warning to public following a video of a man jumping from the same crane which went viral on social media.

Police have identified the man however are yet to contact his next of kin.
