MANA Movement & Māori Party supporters meet

Starting discussions and working together was the main objective for supporters of both the MANA Movement and the Māori Party today as they gathered at Ngā Whare Waatea Marae.

Despite the gathering not being called by either leaders of both respective parties a number of topics were raised, the purpose of the meeting was to discuss ideas about helping the Māori community.

Geoff Haimona Tukua says, “We're not here to dictate the movement, nor to take over, today is about coming together.”

Hone Harawira was in attendance but declined to speak to Te Kāea today, while Māori Party President Naida Glavish has said "Any future meeting between our parties will need to be endorsed by our National Council and Executive and to date, that hasn't happened."

Discussions surrounding the Ture Whenua Māori Act and housing was also on the table at today’s hui.
