Mandela's legacy commemorated at Waikato Stadium

For the last time, the sun set upon one of the world's greatest leaders, Nelson Mandela, as he was laid to rest in his home village of Qunu, South Africa.

Closer to home, there was a return to familiar territory for many who stood in the way of South Africa's apartheid regime.

According to John Minto, “We know he was an inspiring leader of the anti-apartheid struggle, the single most important leader of that struggle, and he inspired not just South Africans, but people around the world.”

As the state funeral procession took place in South Africa, mourners congregated at Waikato Stadium to pay tribute to Nelson Mandela and his legacy.

Minto says the service was about everyone "putting their baggage aside" and commemorating Mandela and his legacy, and they seem to have done just that.
