Māori All Blacks hit the ground running

After close to 24 hours travelling, the Māori All Blacks are in Canada and had their first training run on in Toronto.

Our sports reporter Rewa Harriman is following the team and has reported back on their first hit out.

It is currently winter in Canada at the moment, and luckily for the team it was a little warmer during training this morning.

In terms of the training run, the boys had a light session to get them moving and acclimatised after a long trip.

Although the Māori All Blacks felt the cold on their arrival in Canada it hasn’t swayed the team’s determination.

The team took to the field for its first training today and with a test just 5 days away, the focus is on spending the time they have efficiently.

Andre Taylor (Ngāti Tuwharetoa, Ngāti Kahungungu) says despite the lack of time to prepare, they will take advantage of what they've been given.

Due to the limitations, combinations already formed through Super Rugby and the ITM Cup will be crucial.

Kurt Baker (Ngāpuhi) explains that because they have players from different areas, it's a good time to see how they blend.

Both Taylor and Baker played for the side last year and are thrilled to don the Māori jersey again.

And while training was light today, it's safe to say their scheduled haka practise this afternoon wasn't as timid.
