Māori girls on commemorative stamp found

24 hours ago, Air New Zealand was looking for two Māori girls who featured on one of five of the airline's 75th anniversary commemorative stamp due to go on sale this week. Te Kāea reached out to the public to help find them.

The search is now over and Air New Zealand has tracked down the parents of the two Māori girls in the 1977 snapshot. An image that will feature on the airline's 75th anniversary commemorative stamp series.

The photo of Felia Tumahai and Sonia Wiggins was taken at a time when their iwi, Ngāti Whātua ki Ōrākei, occupied Bastion Point.

Unfortunately, Sonia Wiggins died in 2013 from cancer. She was deeply loved by her family.

Felia Tumahai will be flown over from Australia and her parents will travel with her to Te Papa where they will showcase the photo.
