Settled near the inner western border of the Te Urewera forest, Ruatāhuna Kākahu Mauku Paku Kore was established in 1970 and were the second rōpū to take the stage in Ruatoki today.
Popularly known for using the mauku plant to adorn their performers, the team is tutored by Te Makariini Temara, Tangiora Tawhara, Reremoana Taputu and Ngatai Rangihau. Today their leaders are Ngātai Rangihau and Reremoana Taputu.
Ruatāhuna lives by the kōrero "Ko tōku ora, ko tōku Tūhoetanga, ko tōku Tūhoetanga tōku oranga."
