Matatini 2015 vs Cricket World Cup

Is it to be the Cricket World Cup, or Te Matatini?

Matatini 2015 was expected to be held on the second week of February, but it now clashes with the opening match of the Cricket World Cup.

Although both events were given the green light by the Christchurch City Council, a spokesman says that due to Environment Court conditions, they cannot be held at the same time, so they're working with the Waitaha Cultural Council to resolve the matter.

Māori MPs have their own views.

In the eyes of the Christchurch City Council, it looks as though the February 14th date for the Cricket World Cup opening match is set in stone and will indeed be played here at Hagley Park.

Waitaha Cultural Council say they have options to work towards.

Cricket World Cup NZ's chief executive says they're grateful to be working through it with Te Matatini and the council, as both are special events.

Te Matatini's national committee is hoping to make a decision on the Waitaha, Ngäi Tahu and council options by the end of the week, so, kapa haka enthusiasts, don't book your tickets just yet.
