Miraka Limited receives Te Tupu-a-Nuku Award for Business & Innovation.

Māori-owned Miraka Limited has been awarded the Te Tupu-a-Nuku Award for Business & Innovation.

The company is well established in the New Zealand dairy-processing industry with strong values founded on the cultural beliefs of its owners.  These values guide the business decisions and underpin the interconnected relationships with tangata whenua and with the natural world that sustains and nourishes our well-being.

Located in Mokai, 30km northwest of Taupō in New Zealand’s central North Island, Miraka is unique within the dairy industry. Using sustainable and renewable geothermal energy, state-of-the-art manufacturing processes, Miraka has the power and capacity to process more than 250,000,000 litres of milk into powders and UHT products every year.

The Miraka milk supply comes from 100 local farms within an 85km radius of the factory. This 85km sourcing radius gives Miraka farm-fresh advantage and results in superior quality products. The range of quality products has a global reach to more than 23 countries.

Miraka is owned by a group of Māori trusts and incorporations. These organisations include Wairarapa Moana Incorporation, Tuaropaki Trust, Waipapa 9 Trust, Hauhungaroa Partnership, Tauhara Moana Trust and Huiarau Farms. Its strategic partners and investors include Te Awahohonu Forest Trust Limited, Vinamilk, a leading milk manufacturer and dairy products enterprise in Vietnam and Global Dairy Network who bring experience and knowledge in dairy sales and marketing internationally.

Miraka has an intergenerational view of business and a shared vision of sustainable business practices that ensure future generations enjoy the benefits we do today.

Miraka won the inaugural 2015 He Kai Kei Aku Ringa Award for Māori Excellence in Export at the New Zealand Trade and Enterprise Awards.
