Music comp aims to showcase students talents

Inspired by her ancestor Patuone, Yvette Lamare has launched a music competition for students attending secondary school in the Bay of Plenty, to showcase their musical talents through any medium.

According to Yvette, “The first prize is $2000, second prize is $1000, third prize is $500 and after that we want to continue running competitions.”

Yvette Lamare has been writing poems about youth who have died because of alcohol and drug abuse.

“I want to stop people from dying in alcohol or drug-related car accidents because it was these things that affected my own family.”

Entrees into the competition can be made by looking up Yvette Lamare's page on Facebook from April 1st onwards.
